Hunterston Clydeport Installs Powerful 330 HP Model 1000HD Motorized Pulley

bar

Clydeport upgraded primary shiploader conveyor drives with two 180 HP model 800HD and followed this with the installation of a 330 HP model 1000HD on the dock conveyor in Fairlie, Largs, Scotland. For more details, read complete story published by Coal People August 2011.

Shiploader:
The 2,000 tph shiploader was recently upgraded with two model 800HD Motorized Pulleys, each at 180 HP with a 600 fpm belt speed. Thirty year old exposed drives on the boom and elevating conveyor were replaced with new internally-powered hermetically-sealed units because they promise more "up time" plus a reduction in energy costs.
Dock Conveyor:
Dock conveyor drive was replaced with 330 HP Model 1000HD Motorized Pulley with a 600 fpm belt speed. The Hunterston Terminal is capable of unloading 350,000 dwt cape size vessels and loading 95,000 dwt vessels and has the fastest discharging rates in the UK. They are keenly aware of the risk of demurrage fees if the conveyor system were to delay coal loading or unloading.
Model 800HD Motorized Pulley:
Tony Hooker of Rulmeca UK and Willie Caig of Hunterston Terminal "inspect" an 800HD prior to installation. Last year Willie said, "We've run the Rulmeca pulleys in the train loader on and off 24 hours a day without any problems. We look forward to the same good product performance when we fit the big drives onto our shiploader and export dock conveyor." The drives are now in place and performance is as expected.
Model 1000HD Motorized Pulley:
Dock export conveyor drive is hoisted into position in October 2011. With a diameter of 40.16 inches and face width of 59.06 inches, the 1000HD has a small footprint. Four mounting bolts simplify the installation. Regreasable labyrinth seals and an IP67 sealing system protect the internal drive from the salty atmosphere. Full ceramic lagging ensures a long-lasting and reliable friction surface.
Train Loader:
First Rulmeca Motorized Pulleys were installed in 2008 in the facility's rapid train loading station. The installation included three 100 HP model 800H with 600 fpm belt speed in the bunker feed system. Tony Hooker said, "When Willie agreed to test our drives in 2008, I knew that replacement of the 30 year old existing drives would soon follow."
